Production and release

The film was announced in early 2019, with R. S. Prasanna attached to direct. Principal photography took place in Mumbai, with the apartment set designed to enhance the eerie atmosphere. The film's music was composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee, and the title track was released as a promotional single. Moon was released on 14 February 2020, clashing with several other Valentine's Day releases. It was later made available on streaming platforms, where it found a wider audience.

Reception

Moon received mixed reviews from critics. The Times of India rated it 2.5/5, noting that the film had an interesting premise but suffered from a predictable screenplay and weak character development. The performances, particularly Tehlan's, were praised, with some critics calling her a promising newcomer. The film's visual effects and background score were also highlighted as strengths. However, the pacing and lack of genuine scares were common criticisms. Despite the mixed critical response, the film has gained a cult following among horror enthusiasts for its unique concept.

5

Lesser-known aspects

Moon is notable for being one of the few Bollywood horror films to center on a female protagonist without romantic subplots. The film's director, R. S. Prasanna, is better known for his Tamil romantic comedies, making this a genre departure. The title track, sung by Jubin Nautiyal, was released before the film and became a chartbuster, but the film itself did not perform well at the box office. Additionally, the film's climax was reportedly reshot after test screenings, and the original ending was darker and more ambiguous. The film also features a cameo by a popular television actor, which was not widely publicized.
