Luna Sea is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Firefall, released in 1977. It continued the band's signature blend of soft rock and country rock, and included the hit single "Just Remember I Love You," which became their highest-charting song.
Firefall formed in Boulder, Colorado, in 1974, emerging from the remnants of the band The Burritos and other local acts. Their self-titled debut album (1976) and its follow-up Luna Sea were produced by Jim Mason, who had worked with the band from the start. The album was recorded at various studios, including the Record Plant in Los Angeles and the Caribou Ranch in Colorado, a popular recording retreat for many 1970s rock acts.1
Luna Sea exemplifies Firefall's characteristic sound: melodic rock with country and folk influences, driven by dual lead guitars and rich vocal harmonies. The album's lyrics often explore themes of love, longing, and introspection, set against a backdrop of smooth, radio-friendly arrangements.2
The album reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA.3 Its lead single, "Just Remember I Love You," became the band's biggest hit, peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. A second single, "So Long," was released but did not chart as highly.
Contemporary reviews were generally positive, with critics praising the band's tight musicianship and accessible melodies. Retrospective assessments often cite Luna Sea as one of Firefall's strongest albums, though some note that it adheres closely to the soft rock formula of the era.4

Despite its success, Luna Sea is often overshadowed by the band's debut. The album's title track, "Luna Sea," was inspired by the moonlit ocean, reflecting the band's Colorado roots and their affinity for nature. The album also features a cover of "Cheshire Cat," a song written by former Byrd Gene Clark, who was a friend of the band. Firefall's drummer Michael Clarke was a former member of The Byrds, and his connection to Clark added a layer of musical history to the project.
