Borough of Kettering

According to the 2021 Census, the borough has a population of approximately 101,000, with a mix of urban and rural communities. The population is predominantly White British, but there are significant South Asian and Eastern European communities, reflecting recent immigration. The borough has a number of cultural venues, including the Kettering Arts Centre, housed in a former church, and the Alfred East Art Gallery, named after the landscape painter who was born in the town. The annual Kettering Carnival and the Kettering Music Festival are notable community events. The borough also has a strong sporting tradition, with Kettering Town F.C. being one of the oldest football clubs in the Midlands.

One lesser-known fact is that the borough contains the site of the Battle of Northampton (1460), a key engagement in the Wars of the Roses, which took place near the village of Hardingstone, though the battlefield is now partly within the borough boundary. Another is that the borough's coat of arms includes a reference to the local ironstone industry, which was once a major employer. The borough also has a number of medieval churches, including the 12th-century St Peter and St Paul's Church in Kettering, which contains a rare 14th-century wall painting. Additionally, the borough was a pioneer in public health, with Kettering being one of the first towns to have a municipal swimming pool, opened in 1936.
