John Roberts (stage actor)

John Roberts was born in 1965 in England and developed an interest in acting at a young age. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in the late 1980s. His early career included repertory theatre work in regional companies before he moved to London's West End.

Roberts made his West End debut in the late 1980s, appearing in productions such as Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre. He gained wider recognition in 2004 when he originated the role of the Narrator in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Woman in White at the Palace Theatre, a role he reprised on Broadway in 2005. His performance was noted for its vocal clarity and dramatic presence. He also appeared in the West End revival of The Phantom of the Opera and in the original London cast of Love Never Dies (2010).

Beyond stage work, Roberts has participated in concert performances and cast recordings. He sang on the original cast album of The Woman in White and has performed in concert versions of musicals at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall. He has also worked in television, appearing in British series like Doctors and Casualty, though his primary focus remains theatre.

Roberts is also a trained singer and has performed in opera and oratorio, including a performance of Handel's Messiah with the London Symphony Orchestra. He has been an advocate for arts education, leading workshops for young actors. In 2011, he played the role of the Phantom in a UK tour of The Phantom of the Opera, a part he had understudied earlier in his career. He is known for his meticulous preparation and has a reputation for being a supportive colleague among cast members.
