Jason Jordan Segel (born January 18, 1980) is an American actor, comedian, and screenwriter known for his roles in How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and The Muppets. He has also written and produced several films and television series, and has appeared in a range of dramatic and comedic roles.
Jason Segel was born in Los Angeles, California, to Alvin Segel, a lawyer, and Jacqueline Ann, a homemaker. He attended Harvard-Westlake School, where he developed an interest in acting and comedy. After high school, he briefly attended Harvard University but left to pursue acting full-time.
His first major role was as Nick Andopolis on the NBC series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), created by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow. Although the show was short-lived, it became a cult classic and launched the careers of several actors, including Segel, James Franco, and Seth Rogen.
