Grand River Raceway

Grand River Raceway opened in 1980 as a harness racing facility in Elora, Ontario, and has since become a staple of the province's standardbred circuit. The track is a 5/8-mile oval, a configuration that offers a balance between speed and spectator proximity. It operates under a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and is part of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's horse racing network. The Battle of Waterloo is Grand River Raceway's premier event, a stakes race for three-year-old standardbred trotters and pacers. Named after the nearby city of Waterloo, the race has been held annually since 1981 and carries a purse that often exceeds $100,000, making it one of the richest races on the Ontario circuit. The event draws top horses, trainers, and drivers from across North America, and it is a highlight of the summer racing season. The race is part of the Ontario Sires Stakes program, which supports the province's breeding industry. Winning the Battle of Waterloo is considered a significant achievement in Canadian harness racing.

Beyond racing, Grand River Raceway serves as a community venue, hosting events such as farmers' markets, car shows, and charity fundraisers.
